WP5 – On-board systems


As the avionics suite of the MSV (Manned Suborbital Vehicle) is made of multiple equipment, the study shall focus on a single system (not the complete suite).




Address one of the following systems, studying particularly augmented reality and HMI (Human Machine Interface) aspects:

  1. Augmented reality systems and associated HMI for pilots:
    • For the flying / navigation of the MSV,
    • For communications with passengers,
  2. Augmented reality and associated HMI for passengers:
    • For passengers entertainment,
    • Potentially for communications between passengers,
    • Potentially for communications with pilots,
    • Potentially for communications with the ground (family, friends, …),
  3. Camera (or a set of cameras) and Human Machine Command Interface:
    • Situated outside the cockpit and controllable at will to be able to take videos and/or photos as “souvenirs”,
    • Potentially coupled with the passengers augmented reality system.


Because of the environmental conditions endured by the MSV (acceleration, vibrations, pressure, thermal conditions), civil aviation on board systems are not necessarily satisfying the suborbital vehicle requirements. It is so required to first define the studied system (functions, interface, class of performance) and identify all the resulting constraints induced by the suborbital flight. Then, a technical solution (the system in itself) should be proposed and a suitability analysis of this solution regarding to the constraints and the state of the art has to be produced.

For example, considering an inter-passengers video communication system, you will ensure that the video streams are correctly sized and identify satisfying technologies with respect to performances and the MSV constraints. For an external camera, the thermal constraints will certainly be prevailing.
